On the 9th of October, 130 Lonsdale Street celebrated a significant milestone - the completion of its final level of construction.

In October, the Wesley Place community was buzzing with excitement as 130 Lonsdale Street reached new heights: its final level of construction. To celebrate the important milestone for both Charter Hall and the Melbourne CBD, we teamed up with construction partner, Lendlease, to host a topping out event on site with the Wesley Church, future tenants, other key project stakeholders and even the Treasurer of Victoria, the Hon Tim Pallas MP in attendance.

As everyone ascended to the top level of the high-performance commercial building at 130 Lonsdale - which is set to be opened in mid-2020 - they caught a glimpse of the spectacular Melbourne view from the upper floors.

A workplace unlike any other

Complete with 35 levels of Premium Grade offices and four skyrise terraces, 130 Lonsdale Street will feature exclusive end-of-trip facilities, premium concierge services and a range of smart property technologies to create a world-class workplace experience at the heart of Melbourne. The pouring of the last level signifies the completion of 130’s external structure and the commencement of the internal fit out, specific to each of our tenants’ needs.

“We are proud to see the transformative Wesley Place precinct taking shape within its prominent Lonsdale Street location,” said Charter Hall Managing Director and Group CEO David Harrison on the day. “A destination for Melbourne’s modern workforce and a benchmark for Premium Grade workspaces around the world, 130 Lonsdale Street is already fully leased and has attracted a high caliber of pre-commitment tenants including Australian Super, Vanguard, Cbus Super, Telstra Super, AFCA and UCA.”

Taking history to new heights

The Wesley Place grounds are of real historical significance, home to a complete collection of mid-to-late-19th century and early-20th century church buildings, including Wesley Church. Charter Hall is working in partnership with Uniting Church Australia (UCA) to restore the historical buildings, with Charter Hall committing in excess of $14 million.  130 Lonsdale has been carefully designed to highlight this heritage, whilst transforming the way we work with high-tech offerings and state-of-the-art features. Smart lifts, waste and energy usage monitors, smart bins powered by solar that compact rubbish and electric vehicle charging stations are just some of the solutions to be found on site, future-proofing the precinct well.

Charter Hall Regional Development Director Simon Stockfeld said “this is an exciting point to reach in the construction delivery and paired with the strong leasing results, with 130 Lonsdale Street fully pre-committed, the project is on program to complete mid-next year and begin welcoming tenants to the Wesley Place precinct.”

A vibrant Melbourne experience

With vibrant green spaces, curated art, world-class culinary, commercial and retail offerings, the diverse spaces around 130 Lonsdale Street will transform the way people work, connect and socialise - in the bustling Melbourne CBD. 55 percent of the site will comprise of open space, helping to create a restorative seven-day-a-week hub, in a seven-day-a-week city.

“We are also on track to achieve a 6-Star Green Star rating, a 5-Star NABERS rating and Platinum WELL Certification at 130 Lonsdale Street,” shared Simon. “The technology-enabled building will provide a new standard of sustainable working for our innovative and industry-leading tenant customers.”

As the tech-enabled $750 million office tower reaches its highest point, it’s clear that our transformative precinct is coming closer and closer to completion. We are very grateful to the Uniting Church of Australia for entrusting Charter Hall and our project partners, Cox Architects and construction partner Lendlease, with this very special site. We look forward to welcoming our new 130 Lonsdale Street tenants to a new way of working at Wesley Place soon.
